Sophie’s Steakhouse, established in the early 2000s and located in the heart of both Soho and Chelsea, is known for its open-fire cooking, in-house butchery, quality British steaks and its signature 10oz giant martinis. Beneath the Soho site sits Jack Solomons, a speakeasy-style bar with a boxing club heritage, offering shabby-chic interiors, live jazz and late night DJs.
Working closely with the owner, they wanted the Sophie’s boards to have a very hand-drawn, organic look and Jack Solomons to have an illustrative but informative style.
Promoting the 10oz giant martinis, in-house butchery, and detailed illustrations of the steak cuts for Sophie’s was a top priority. For Jack Solomons, highlighting the history of the club along with the menus for their carafes and signature cocktails was essential as well.
We kept to a classic black and white colour scheme throughout, using a touch of ruby red for the frames and illustrations for Sophie’s, and adding some extra shading techniques to the illustrations for Jack Solomons.
All our blackboards, a beam in the restaurant, and several quotes needed to be painted for Sophie’s and Solomons. I showed Michael the look I wanted, and he and his team delivered exactly that. They completed all the work on time and didn’t cut any corners when it came to quality. I’ll definitely be using them again and would highly recommend them.”
